ABOUT FEBC – CHINESE MINISTRIES
關於遠東廣播中文事工
Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) is a non-denominational, non-profit international Christian broadcasting organization. Since our founding, we have remained steadfast in our vision and mission of “Christ to the World by Radio”, dedicated to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the unreached peoples of the world.
FEBC was founded in 1945 in Los Angeles by Robert Bowman and John Broger, who received a calling to use the far-reaching power of radio to spread the Gospel throughout Asia. In 1948, FEBC established its first radio station in the Philippines, and in 1949, officially began broadcasting to China, opening a window for our Chinese compatriots to hear the Gospel just before the “Bamboo Curtain” fell. Today, FEBC broadcasts the Gospel to the world’s population in 50 countries using more than 150 languages.
To serve the global Chinese community more comprehensively, FEBC Chinese Ministries’ partners—FEBC Hong Kong, FEBC Taiwan, FEBC USA Chinese Ministries, and FEBC Canada Chinese Ministries—work in close collaboration. We combine traditional broadcasting with modern new media to cross geographical boundaries and transmit Gospel truths to 1.4 billion people in China and Chinese people worldwide.
The Chinese Ministries department in California, USA, was established in 1988. Over the years, we have continuously strived to produce diverse programming to spread the truth to our Chinese compatriots. In recent years, responding to the needs of the times, we have developed internet broadcasting and mobile applications, establishing a vast audience base and guiding Chinese people to receive the blessings of the Gospel. We serve local churches and equip the saints to lead seekers to Christ. Our production focus remains on audio content, integrated with text, images, and video across multi-media platforms to clearly communicate the message that “God loves the world, and Jesus is the Savior” to Chinese people everywhere.
我們的異象和使命
Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) is an international, non-profit, and non-denominational Christian organization. Since its founding in 1945, we have remained steadfast in the vision and mission given by God to "Preach Christ to the World by Radio," continuously broadcasting Gospel messages across the globe through radio waves. Today, FEBC utilizes shortwave, medium wave, and FM stations in 150 language groups, transmitting the Gospel in over a hundred languages to two-thirds of the world's population.
As the world continues to expand, FEBC also utilizes the internet, mobile networks, and diverse digital platforms to broadcast the Gospel even more widely to the global Chinese community and beyond. Therefore, today's broadcasting is no longer limited to radio waves; it is a deep and broad transmission of multimedia through network platforms. We faithfully fulfill the command of Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations, guiding and nurturing believers while spreading the message of Christ to the ends of the earth via radio, new media, and modern networks
Reverend Billy Graham once said: "Far East Broadcasting Company is one of the greatest Gospel ministries in the world." A leader from World Vision noted: "Wherever I go, I constantly hear how God uses Far East Broadcasting Company to change people's lives and bring them to Christ—especially in those remote and restricted regions. I am very happy to promote FEBC’s great and God-blessed ministry." An observer remarked: "In 1945, with the founding of FEBC, world missions entered a new era. For decades, Gospel news has been broadcast to the unreached peoples of the world".
In the early 1930s
In 1930, two young American seminary students, Robert Bowman and John Broger, recognized the urgent need for the gospel in the densely populated Asia. Both men felt a calling from God to utilize the most revolutionary and powerful media tool of that era—radio broadcasting—to spread the Gospel throughout the continent. Although the start of the Korean War and World War II forced them to temporarily postpone this mission, their vision for Asian missions was reignited following the end of WWII.
Post WWII
In 1945, Far East Broadcasting Company was official incorporated and founded in Los Angeles, California. The founders immediately traveled to China to prepare for the set up a radio station and began producing Gospel programs in Shanghai that would air on local stations. However, as mission work in China shut down due to the rise of communism; an alternative had to be found.
Key Years of Development
With virtually no resources, God performed a series of wonderful miracles (refer to The Miracle of the $1,000). FEBC’s first radio station, KZAS, began its official broadcast on June 4, 1948, in the Philippines. On July 29 of the following year—two months before the founding of the People’s Republic of China—KZAS began transmitting broadcasts from the Philippines to China with10,000 watts of power. Just before the “Bamboo Curtain” fell, God opened this window for the Gospel to reach China.
Key Turning Point
FEBC began broadcasting Gospel programs to China via shortwave transmitters to shepherd and feed the flock.
Developments in the 80s
